The Zone Diet: The New Celebrity Diet?

Unless you’ve been in hiding for last few years you have undoubtedly heard of the Zone Diet. Embraced and applauded by celeb’s such as Jennifer Aniston, the Zone Diet is thought by many to be an eating plan which guarantees weight loss. Often celebrity diets are reported to be grueling and extreme but followers say this one is different. Have a look at the info below to make your own decision and find out if the Zone Diet is for you.

Founding Father
After spending years studying the source of heart disease Dr. Barry Sears, a former researcher at MIT, introduced what many thought was a revolutionary new method of dieting. Dr. Sears’s approach to dieting is based on Nobel-Prize winning research which examines the way in which dietary fats impact hormones that are believed to be integral in the struggle to reach and maintain a healthy weight. Dr. Sears does not advocate crash dieting or severe restriction but rather suggests that a healthy and balanced diet is made up of a few key ingredients.

Finding the Right Balance
The Zone Diet advocates a healthy proportion of lean protein and what Dr. Sears calls “good” carbohydrates. The quick way to tell if your meal is Zone friendly is to use the “hand-eye” method. First, fill your plate with a portion of protein no more than the size of your palm. Now don’t go thinking you can fill your palm with bacon! Lean proteins are choices such as chicken breast or grilled fish. The rest of your plate can be piled high with the right carbohydrates which include sauce and butter-free fruits and vegetables. Top that off with a small amount of “good” fat like olive oil and you have yourself a Zone Diet meal. The diet is based on three meals a day and two snacks. This meal plan is supposed to ensure that your energy levels are stable all day so that you don’t end up feeling hungry or deprived.

The Zone Community
The Zone Diet also takes off from old dieting strategies such as Weight Watchers which rely heavily on group support. At www.drsears.com you can join and become a member of the Zone Diet community. The site provides forums, dieting tips and articles, recipes and motivating success stories. It is also heavily invested in Zone Diet products such as prepared meals and bars so be wary of that while making your choice.

Touted as the new celebrity diet, the Zone Diet is simple enough to follow and advocates moderate and healthful dieting choices. You can find out more for yourself at www.zonediet.com.
