The Lemonade Diet

Finding an effective and reliable weight loss diet is a big task for many people. One of the many popular diet regimens is the Lemonade Diet, also known as the ‘master cleanse’. It is deemed to be effective in detoxifying the body. Science has found that systemic cleansing of the toxins and fats in your system can be a healthy practice.

The lemonade diet originally appeared in 1941, but internal body cleansing has been around for centuries. Documents from early Egyptian and Roman times extol its benefits. Today, certain cultures encourage it and some religions make it part of their rituals.

The lemonade cleansing diet requires that a person drink only fresh squeezed lemons with water, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. It also recommends that you drink a salt water solution every morning and a laxative tea every evening to ensure that the toxins and fats are disposed from your body on a daily basis.

Diet Ingredients and Instructions
The lemonade diet is meant to be a seven-day fast. No food or beverages are allowed except for fresh lemonade or lemonade from a concentrate, water and the occasional peppermint tea. Since this is a cleansing diet, 10 days is the maximum time recommended, but should you abandon the effort after a few days, you will still reap some benefits as the diet allows the digestive tract to rest and rids the body of toxins. Adherence to a cleansing diet requires determination and discipline; many who attempt it do not complete the suggested fasting period.
You must drink lemonade 6-10 times a day, usually when hunger strikes. A mix of the following ingredients will produce the correct type of lemonade for this diet:

  • 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons of grade B organic maple syrup
  • One-tenth of a teaspoon of powered organic cayenne pepper
  • Eight ounces of distilled water

Lemonade DietTo aid with bowel cleansing, a daily non-caffeinated laxative tea or salt water flush is suggested. To prepare the salt water solution, mix one teaspoon of organic sea salt (non-iodized) with 25-35 ounces of warm water.

Testimonials
Dr Mehmet Oz, the cardiologist turned health guru, approved the lemonade cleansing diet on the Oprah Winfry show in 2007, and stated that it prepares an individual for other weight loss programs. The Discovery channel’s host of “Truth About Foods” also endorses this diet. Pop singer Beyonce claims to have lost 20 pounds on the lemonade regimen.

Whether you agree or disagree with the practice of the lemonade cleansing diet, it would appear that it has its place in the battle for weight loss. Besides eliminating toxins from your body, it has been deemed to rejuvenate the skin, clear acne, alleviate stomach aches, bloating, indigestion, help relieve chronic pain from clogging of internal organs, boost energy levels and of course, trigger weight loss.

The Lemonade Diet website recommends subscribing to their newsletter in order to obtain tips, directions and support in order to help you successfully complete the ‘master cleanse’.
