How to get Rid of Cellulite: The Bottom Line
Cellulite is a harmless but dreaded epidemic that lurks beneath the skirts
and undergarments of women around the world. It does not cause physical
pain, but it can certainly wreak emotional havoc and drive women to feel
inhibited and insecure about their looks.
Although
cellulite can appear in any area of fat on the body, the most common places
to find it are around the thighs, buttocks, and abdomen. While millions
of women want to know how to get rid of cellulite, or at least minimize
its development, many myths have surfaced regarding it. Sometimes, just
some simply lifestyle
changes is all it taks. Read on for help on separating fact from fiction.
Here are some of the most popular beliefs about cellulite:
- Even skinny people get cellulite.
It’s a Fact! Cellulite is not a mark of the obese; even slender
people can have dappled thighs and bottoms. Of course that does not
mean that diet and exercise do not play a role - good nutrition and
regular exercise are foremost in the fight against cellulite.
- Women are more prone to cellulite than men.
It’s a Fact! Ninety percent of women are afflicted with cellulite
to some degree, whereas only ten percent of men are affected. Why? One
reason is that the collagen in men is structured differently than the
collagen in women, and somewhat better at supporting fat deposits. Moreover,
women are genetically predisposed to producing more fat; therefore,
they have more fat receptors than men. Not fair, right?
- Only old people get cellulite.
It’s a Myth! Although it is certainly true that cellulite becomes
more prevalent as you age, it is definitely not exclusive to the over-40
crowd. In fact, cellulite can appear as early as adolescence!
- What you wear has nothing to do with cellulite.
It’s a Myth! Non-restrictive undergarments can increase proper
blood circulation and reduce the formation and appearance of cellulite.
Some doctors even suggest to women, who want to reduce cellulite dimples
on their buttocks, that they should change their underwear!
- Not all cellulite is alike.
It’s a Fact! Clinically speaking, there are different grades of
cellulite that range from mild to severe, depending on its visibility.
The higher the grade, the harder it is to treat.
And the big one…
- Cellulite cannot be treated.
It’s a Myth! Although it may be impossible to eliminate cellulite
entirely and permanently, there are things you can do to reduce its
appearance and prevent it from reoccurring. Certain cellulite-melting
techniques have shown good results; however, note that some are more
effective than others. Below are a few of the most popular forms of
treatment that can alleviate your concerns on how to get rid of cellulite—or
at least reduce its visibility.
- Cellulite Machines
Cellulite machines, such as the popular Endermologie, massages the body
and rolls over fatty tissue, breaking down fat cells in order to facilitate
their elimination through the body’s natural metabolic processes.
These machines can be effective, but treatments can be expensive and
need to be repeated frequently.
- Cellulite Creams
It almost seems like a magic cure—too good to be true—but
some cellulite creams actually do work to reduce the appearance of cottage
cheese-like skin. Most of the good cellulite creams contain caffeine,
which helps to increase blood circulation and get the fat flowing out
of the system. However, even the best creams can merely reduce the visibility
of cellulite; they cannot get rid of it completely.
- Laser Treatments
In recent years, women have turned to advanced laser technology for
a solution to how to get rid of cellulite. Laser treatments can help
smooth out the appearance of cellulite but, before you undergo this
procedure, it is important to ask many questions on the process as not
all laser treatments are alike. The best ones blast fat cells, and stimulate
the production of collagen in the body, which promotes smoother, firmer-looking
skin.
If you are hoping to find a permanent solution on how to get rid of cellulite,
then you will probably have better luck finding the fountain of youth.
Once you accept that cellulite is more than likely here to stay—at
least to some extent—you can adopt some realistic ways to reduce
its appearance to a level that you can happily live with.
